Through the efforts of Kg Sg Matan's Consultative Council, Mukim Kota Batu, the annual Matan Carnival will be held once again. The two-day carnival, which begins on May 31, aims to introduce and promote Kg Sg Matan as a tourist destination to local and foreign tourists, as well as to investors seeking to buy property in Brunei.
Through this, it hopes to strengthen ties between residents of Kg Sg Matan, participants and the general public, as well as to promote the Tourist Development Project. This, in turn, raises the economic status of Kg Sg Matan residents through the development of small enterprises, through the sale of fresh fish, prawns, vegetables, fruits, processed food, local delicacies and handicrafts.
Apart from that, Matan Carnival 2007 will also be holding various activities for residents and visitors of all ages. Special games and activities for children have also been organised such as colouring competitions, a treasure hunt, bouncers and quizzes. In addition, there will also be stalls for rent to sell local products, a three-day fishing challenge, karaoke, lucky draws, as well as fish and prawn cooking, net casting and ‘Guess The Weight of the Fish' competitions.
First-time visitors to Kg Sg Matan will also have the chance to view an exhibition of the Consultative Council's activities, leading up to the carnival, or tour the Water Village on the Eco Historial Cruise Safari or Mangrove Boat Safari.
