President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on May 6 attended the opening of a new property Azerbaijan – the building of Azerbaijani Embassy to the Arab Republic of Egypt in Cairo.
Staff of the Embassy and Azeris living in Cairo warmly welcomed the President and First Lady.
The President and accompanying Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmad Nazif unveiled the plaque reading “Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and cut the ribbon symbolizing official opening of the new building.
President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva were presented flowers.
President of Azerbaijan and Egyptian Premier were familiarized with facilities at the Embassy, saw rooms and conference room.
There are a number of embassies in this territory, which is one of the nicest in Cairo.
The Arab Republic of Egypt has recognized independence of Azerbaijan on December 26, 1991, and on April 11, 1992 diplomatic relations between two countries were established. Azeri Embassy to Egypt has been operating since 1994.
Then, a solemn ceremony took place. Addressing it Egyptian Premier said his country that conducts active policy in the region partakes as mediator in settlement of a number of conflicts. Talking of economic development of Egypt he noted his country is keen in deepening of economic cooperation with the fraternal country, and invited Azerbaijani businessmen to Egypt.
In his speech President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Azeri diplomats on the opening of new building of the embassy in Cairo, underlined that expanding relations with not only Egypt but also all other Muslim countries is one of the main directions of the Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
He invited the President and Prime Minister of Egypt to pay a visit to Azerbaijan, noting the documents to be signed during his this visit will give a new impetus to the bilateral cooperation.
