Russian investors are starting the construction of a stone mediaeval fortress from IX century new the resort village of Aheloy. The cultural and historic complex will represent to the maximum the legend for the battle in 917. In the vicinity of Aheloy the Bulgarian Tsar Simeon I destroyed the armies of the Byzantine emperor Lion Foka. The field of the landmark battle, which made Bulgarian state the uncontestable dominion of the Balkan Peninsula, is called nowadays Kokalos, after the scattered corpses of killed soldiers.
The complex will be built in the zone called “Strolata” in the area of the resort Aheloy. The complex will be surrounded by tall stone-made wall, and at the main entrance there will be a falling bridge. The building will be guarded by 30 people in mediaeval soldier uniforms. Arround the fortress there will be plots, on which all kinds of defenses will be exposed, as well as equipment for siege and capturing of conquering of a fortress. In the fortress there will be a mediaeval church, two exhibition halls, trade premises and workshops, representing the ancient Bulgarian crafts, a motel, a restaurant and an amphitheatre, etc. In the exhibition halls there will be museum exponents from the armaments of the Bulgarian army, as well as historical data for all our rulers since the creation of the Bulgarian country till nowadays. There will be a miniature model will the position of the armies in the Aheloy battle and the sequence of the military actions. The area on which this complex will be built is 22791 sq.m.
Except for that Aheloy offers a lot more entertainment to its visitors. The village is constantly modernizing its attractions for tourists.
One of the novelties is the beginning of the construction of a new golf course near the tow of Kableshkovo which is only 6 km away from Aheloy.
